Primary 7 Victorian Day

Febuary 2010. Primary 7 spent the morning at The Palace Stables, Armagh to sample life as a Victorian. To add to the experience we all dressed up in Victorian costume. We had all strands of Victorian society represented from the humble chimney sweep and scullery maid through members of the clergy to some fine Lords and Ladies.

We found out what it would have been like to work in "The Big House" as a Potboy!! We discovered the "Whistling Tunnel" which connected the kitchen to the house. Can you think why it was called the "Whistling Tunnel"? Time was spent in the school room with a very strict school mistress! We saw how the Victorians preserved their food in the Smoke Room and later the Ice House.

When we returned to school we spent the afternoon doing some Victorian lessons - we did some simple arithmetic:

e.g. What is 741826421741 - 427984642814 !!!

A good day was had by all.
