Non-Uniform Day raises £1230 for Haiti
|
Pupils of Moyallon Primary School held a non-uniform day to raise funds for the victims of the recent earthquake to strike Haiti. Pupils were asked to bring donation into school which would go to UNICEF to support their relief project "School-in-a-Box". This provides emergency equipment to get schools back up and running again following disasters. Each "School-in-a-Box" provides enough equipment to get 40 children back to the secure surroundings of their school environment even if their own school has suffered damage. |

Mr J Priestley (Principal) said, "Everyone of us, who saw the images on our TV screens from Haiti, were moved especially when we saw the plight of so many young children. We as a school felt we needed to help, even in some small way. A hastily arranged Non-Uniform Day was held on Friday 22nd. The sum of £1230 raised by our pupils far exceeded our hopes and expectations and is testament to the generosity of the children, parents and friends associated with our school. The money raised has been forwarded to UNICEF and will fund the purchase of eight "School-in-a-Box" Kits. This means 320 children will have enough equipment to get back to their lessons and get some much needed routine back into their lives following this awful disaster." |
